In Robertson County, one man died and four others were injured as a result of a head on collision on Saturday, Department of Public Safety officials said.
According to authorities, 64-year-old Tyler resident, Steven Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene, near Buna Road on Highway 79. Initial reports said the minivan Lucas was driving veered into the lane of oncoming traffic, striking a Nissan Versa, head-on.
The Nissan was driven by 39-year-old Panicker Manoj, who was transported to Scott & White Hospital in Temple, via air flight. Amy Emberton, 34, a passenger in Manoj's vehicle, and was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, Texas. Both Emberton and Manoj were listed in critical condition.
In addition to the initial collision, a Volkswagon sedan veered off the road as a result of the previous accident, causing injury to the driver and his passenger. Thirty-three-year-old Jesse Marsh and Jennifer Walker were both transported, with minor injuries, to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, where they were treated for minor injuries and released soon after.
