An 18 wheeler accident claimed the life of a 37-year-old man when the driver of the semi-truck was attempting to make a u-turn and the victim’s passenger car slid beneath the trailer of the big rig. The accident occurred on SH 146 near Moss Hill.

The victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the 18 wheeler truck accident, was identified as 37-year-old Mulmaro Zuniga. His brother Jorge Zuniga was also in the 2000 Mitsubishi car that was involved in the semi-truck crash.

Jorge was transported to Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center for the treatment of injuries he endured in the wreck.

Officials investigating the semi-truck accident reported that the driver of the big rig was attempting to make a U-turn after passing the turn he had planned on making. As a result, the trailer on his truck extended into the path of Mulmaro’s vehicle.

Police said Jorge slid into his seat in an effort to avoid the impact of the tractor-trailer truck crash.

The 18 wheeler truck was, reportedly, driven by 49-year-old Leroy Scott, a resident of LaPorte. Authorities noted that the truck’s trailer was empty at the time of the collision.
