A rollover accident on I-35 claimed the life of a woman and left her husband with serious injuries on Sunday morning, officials reported.

The young woman who was killed in the Waco crash was identified as 23-year-old Kayla Marie Elsenburg, a resident of Hewitt, Texas. Elsenburg was transported, along with her husband, Johnie Elsenburg, 24, to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Elsenburg died after arriving at the hospital.

According to police, the couple had a small child in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The child was not, reportedly, injured in the rollover accident on I-35.

Police said Mrs. Elsenburg was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The accident may have been caused when she lost control while attempting to avoid striking an SUV.

Officials are still investigating the Waco rollover accident.

Despite improving technology and more stringent auto manufacturing standards, some vehicle fail to provide adequate protection for drivers and passengers, resulting in serious injuries and death caused by failed auto equipment. Defective seatbelts are one example of a vital auto component that can save lives when used by occupants. But while seatbelts are important, the failure of such safety equipment can be devastating. Failed materials or poor latch construction can fail during the event of an accident, leaving occupants vulnerable to ejection.
