5th Grader Killed, Mother Injured in McGregor Car Crash

A McGregor Elementary School 5th grader was killed and her mother was injured in a rollover accident on Mother Neff Parkway in McGregor, Texas on Monday afternoon, police said.

Police identified the young girl as 11-year-old Lisa Marie Williams. She was ejected from the vehicle, officials noted. Williams’ mother, 44-year-old Melissa Stanley was transported to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco.

Department of Public Safety officials said the rear tire blew out on the 1998 Ford Explorer, causing Stanley to lose control of the SUV, causing the vehicle to overturn and land on its top in a nearby field.

Police are not sure whether Williams was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the McLennan County rollover accident on Mother Neff Parkway.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to he family and friends of Lisa Marie Williams and her mother, Melissa Stanley.

A rear tire blowout, sometimes caused by a defective tire or tread separation, often causes the driver of a vehicle to lose control. In cases where an SUV is involved, a rollover accident is a common result of a rear tire blowout, making occupants vulnerable to serious injuries and even death.

Ford SUV’s have sometimes carried a particular risk of rear tire blowouts, affected by defective tires and rollover risks specific to the SUV’s high center of gravity.

In many situations, drivers and family members are left wondering what caused such a tragic accident or what may have been done to prevent the injuries and death associated. Sometimes, auto manufacturers and retailers are aware of the dangerous flaws associated with their products, long before recalls are issued.

A recent article discussed recent allegations against Ford Motor Co., where the automaker has been accused of selling trucks with defective fuel tanks, over a ten year period of time, hiding the issue from consumers.

Automakers must be held responsible for defective products that are sometimes sold with the knowledge that injuries and death are real possibilities that can result from deficiencies.
