Alto police officer injured in collision

An off-duty police officer was injured in a collision on State Highway 7, between Marlin and Kosse, early Monday morning.

According to police officials, the officer and his wife were traveling westbound on Texas 7 in a black pick-up when a white pick-up travelling eastbound on the same road attempted to pass an 18-wheeler in a no passing zone. The black truck struck the white truck on its side.

The officer, identified by authorities as Rory Velasquez of the Alto Police Department, was flown to Scott and White in Temple where he received treatment for a broken arm and possibly broken legs.

There were no other injuries reported.

The crash happened around 6 a.m.
