An Austin official and her husband were injured in a car accident, Sunday morning at RM 2222 and Loop 360, officials said.
City of Austin Transportation Department Public Information Manager, Karla Villalon endured severe injuries to the bones surrounding her eyes and her pelvis as a result of the collision. Her husband, Augusto Villalon had emergency surgery, but was recently listed in critical condition.
The car driven by the Villalon’s was hit by a pickup truck, driven by 17-year-old Johnny Alberto Dimas, who is currently in the Travis County Jail. Dimas’ injuries, and the injuries of his passenger, were deemed minor, according to hospital officials where they were initially transported.
Dimas has been charged with three felony charges of intoxication assault and one misdemeanor assault charge.
Police say Dimas was speeding when he lost control of his pickup truck, hitting a guardrail and slamming into the Villalon’s car, as they waited at a stoplight.
