One man lost his life in a Northwest Austin car accident on East Palmer Lane early Sunday morning, police reported.

The man was identified by Austin Police Department officials as 27-year-old Yoandry Arias.

Authorities believe Arias lost control of his vehicle and may have overcorrected in an attempt to regain control of the vehicle. As a result, the unidentified vehicle rolled several feet near Hwy 45. The vehicle landed in a wooded area close by the roadway.

Officials on the scene reported that Arias was pronounced dead at the scene of the car accident in Austin.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Yoandry Arias.

Vehicles are designed to protect the occupants within it, even during a serious rollover accident. With emerging technology and standards governing the crashworthiness of vehicles, especially SUV’s and pickups with higher risks of rolling, passengers and drivers should be safer than ever. But despite the information available to auto manufacturers, vehicle defects can leave occupants vulnerable to serious head injuries, brain injuries and neck and back injuries.
