A blazing collision between an 18 wheeler truck and a Jeep resulted in the death of a Belton man Thursday morning on State Highway 36 at North Fort Hood, Department of Public Safety officials said. Upon contact, the 18 wheeler truck ignited in flames.

The Jeep’s driver, 48-year-old Philip Yarbrough, a local licensed nurse practitioner, was pronounced dead at the scene. As a former Coryell County Emergency Management Coordinator, Yarbrough was well known within the community.

The driver of the 18-wheeler truck, John Ray Holly, 38, was flown to Scott & White in Temple for minor injuries, according to police.

Although authorities believe the truck was hauling milk, no contents appeared to have leaked, troopers said.
