Two workers were critically injured in an electrical explosion at an East Texas biomass plant on Tuesday, officials said.

Police identified the two injured men as 33-year-old Alex Jiminez and 63-year-old Edmond Phillip.

According to recent reports, both Jiminez and Phillip were on the second story of the plant, near high voltage when the electricity flashed and they were both seriously burned. Both men were contractors for Fagan Construction. Such workers are contracted by Southern Power in Sacul.

Nacogdoches authorities said the accident occurred around 8 a.m. this morning at a plant operated by Fagen Inc. of Granite Falls, Minn. The company declined to comment on the workplace accident that left employees in the hospital with serious injuries.

Although officials are still investigating the accident, they believe the explosion was electrical in nature. The fire was quickly extinguished by fire personnel.

Both men were transported to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for the treatment of their critical injuries. They were later tranferred to the burn unit in Memorial Hospital in Dallas. They were still recently listed in critical condition.
