Border patrol Helicopter Crashes Hospitalizing Two

A helicopter crash during a security mission near the Mexican border resulted in the injuries of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection pilot and passenger, on Tuesday.

Although the pilot and an accompanying observer were hospitalized shortly after the helicopter accident, officials say no one was seriously injured.

Occurring in a rural location near San Juan, the Federal Aviation Administration will continue to investigate the scene of the accident to uncover more details about what caused it.

The EC-120 helicopter was seen from a distance, by witnesses, lying on its side in an area that appeared to be a small landfill.

At the time of the helicopter accident, agents were apparently in pursuit of a pickup truck driven by a juvenile near the crash site, an unidentified Border Patrol agent said. The identities of the pilot and observer have not yet been released.
