Canyon Villa Apartments Gas Leak Injures at Least Seven in Austin

A gas leak at the Canyon Villas apartments in Northeast Austin sent at least 7 people to the hospital after being exposed to carbon monoxide, police said. In addition, several other people refused treatment.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene of the apartments, finding a 7-year-old boy unconscious. He was transported to Dell Children’s Medical Center along with other children affected by the carbon monoxide exposure at the apartments. Adults affected by the gas leak were transported to St. David’s Medical Center for treatment.

According to reports, people at the apartments had noticed the smell of gas for days but never reported it to authorities.

Every year, 500 people die from injuries related to carbon monoxide exposure, highlighting the seriousness of gas leaks, like the one that occurred this week in Austin.
