A Texas couple was killed in a rollover car accident in Colorado, when the driver lost control of the SUV and overcorrected, Colorado officials said.
Authorities identified the couple as 84-year-old Lamar Schweitzer, who was driving at the time of the Colorado car wreck, and 73-year-old Linda Schweitzer. Both were residents of Conroe.
Hospital officials said Lamar Schweitzer was transported to the hospital, where he passed away from injured incurred in the car accident.
Colorado police said the Toyota 4Runner rolled at least two times after leaving the roadway.
SUV’s, in particular, have a higher risk of rollover because of the greater center of gravity. Loss of control can make SUV’s and pickup trucks more vulnerable to overturning. Despite the risk of rollover, SUV’s and trucks are designed with protective equipment that is meant to safeguard occupants should a vehicle overturn. The pillars of a vehicle’s roof are meant to reinforce, protecting the space between an occupants head and neck from roof crush.
