A Conroe, Texas man died early Tuesday morning when his pickup truck struck a Wal-Mart 18 wheeler truck after crossing four lanes of traffic, Department of Public Safety troopers said.
Eighteen-year-old Dustin Kellog is believed to have crossed four lanes, before colliding with the big rig. Police are unsure why he did so. Finding Kellog’s cell phone is his pocket, officials have ruled out the distraction of cell phone use as a cause of the 18 wheeler accident.
Taking place on Old Houston Road, the accident occurred at around 1 a.m., according to officials on the scene.
While the driver of the 18 wheeler truck was not injured in the crash, hundreds of gallons of diesel gasoline spilled on FM 1314 near Old Houston Road, causing delays while crews cleaned the spill.
Kellog, a right-handed pitcher, had recently signed to play with the Astro’s, who sent him to pitch in Florida with the Gulf Coast League.
