Defective Gel Fuel Kills 2 and Injures 65

As many as 65 people have been injured and two killed as a result of defective gel fuel that some retailers did not even realize was recalled.
Despite a June 2011 voluntary recall by Napa Home & Garden Fire Gel, sold by a variety of retailers, including Bed Bath and Beyond, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a separate recall of nine additional brands on September 1. The products have been available for purchase since 2008.
Brands of pourable gel fuel that could potentially provoke burns or fire damage to people, pets and property include the following companies and products:
- Bird Brain
- Bond Manufacturing
- Sunjel Company (2 Burn Inc.)
- Fuel Barons
- Lamplight Farms
- Luminosities (Windflame)
- Pacific Décor
- Real Flame
- Smart Solar
- Napa Home & Garden
Despite the recall inclusion of an array of brands and companies who make the gel fuel, 28 of the 65 injuries that have been reported were caused by Napa Home and Garden brand gel, the CPSC said.
