Drunk Driving Accident in Fort Worth Claims Life of 17 Year Old

A Grandview teen, who had stopped to help with a previous car accident, was killed on Sunday morning, when he was struck by a suspected drunk driver, Fort Worth police said.

The 17-year-old teen was identified as Joshua Kaluzniak, a resident of Grandview, Texas.

Kaluzniak stopped, along with other witnesses to the previous car accident, after the Jeep struck an abandoned car. Police said he was waving traffic along in an effort to help them avoid the crash. He was struck by an oncoming vehicle, which caused him to fall from the overpass.

Although police have not yet identified the man that struck Kaluzniak in the alleged drunk driving accident in Fort Worth, they reported the 43-year-old male was arrested on a charge of intoxication manslaughter.

Driving under the influence of alcohol affects a driver’s reaction time, vision and decision making abilities. But while drivers may be held responsible for accidents, injuries and death resulting from their choice to get behind the wheel, other parties may also be held liable for a drunk driving accident in Texas.

Texas DRAM shop laws often hold restaurants, bars and clubs responsible for subsequent accidents, if they were negligent in over serving a patron, which may have led to intoxication and a drunk driving accident.
