East Texas Rollover Accident Kills Five

A rollover accident sparked by a tire blowout left five people dead and five others injured on Tuesday evening when a GMC Envoy blew a tire, causing it to overturn on I-20.

Officials reported that there were as many as 12 people in the SUV at the time of the crash. Nine of those occupants were ejected from the vehicle as a result of the East Texas crash.

Police identified the five people killed in the rollover on I-20 as Rosbellia Jaimes, 13, Omar Jaimes, 7, Saideth Acuna, 6, Yuliza Acuna, 3 and Judith Jaimes, 2.

Only two occupants, including the driver, were, reportedly, wearing seatbelts at the time of the single car accident. Neither of them were injured.

The rollover crash is still under investigation.

Although vehicles with higher centers of gravity can be more susceptible to overturning, specific parts a vehicle is equipped with are designed to safeguard vehicles from crashing as well as protect occupants during a rollover event.

The roof of a vehicle is just one of the vital components that can protect the vulnerable space between the roof of the car, truck or SUV and the head and neck of drivers and passengers. When the roof of a vehicle is defective or poorly designed, it can leave occupants at risk of enduring serious injuries that can be life threatening.

In addition to the importance of a vehicle roof, the tires outfitted on a vehicle are imperative to every day operation as well as to the safety of the vehicle. Poorly designed or defective tires can result in unexpected tire blowout accidents, especially during warmer summer months.
