Eight Injured in 18 Wheeler Accident on I-35

An accident involving an 18 wheeler truck shut down I-35 early Monday morning when the big rig smashed into a median, sliding into a nearby pickup truck and another semi-truck. Eight people were injured in the truck accident on I-35 near Elm Mott.

The driver of the commercial truck, that sparked the major Texas accident, was transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas with serious burn injuries. He was most recently listed in stable condition.

Six people, some of which were children, were riding in the pickup truck at the time of the serious accident. All six people were transported to area hospitals for the treatment of injuries, which officials described as non-life threatening.

The second 18 wheeler truck’s driver had to be freed from the wreckage by emergency officials. He experienced injuries to his leg as a result of the fiery crash. He was transported via helicopter to Hillcrest Medical Center.

Several factors can lead to serious commercial accidents throughout Texas. Distraction, alcohol and drug abuse, sleepy driving and disregard for traffic laws and signals can all lead to serious auto wrecks involving semi-trucks. While general auto accidents can be serious and take years to recover from, 18 wheeler accidents can be even more devastating, both physically and mentally. Victims can experience life-long injuries and trauma resulting from truck and commercial accidents that have left them with injuries that make it difficult to work as they did before, care for family members and even care for self.
