A 75-year-old woman was killed when the Dodge Caravan she occupied with her husband was hit by a Freightliner truck Tuesday, officials said.
The victim in the accident was identified by police as Mary Nell McDermott, who was a passenger in the van while her husband, Allen Howard McDermott was driving. Both are Fort Worth residents.
Mr. McDermott was injured in the collision and was transported to Scott and White Hospital , where he was listed in critical condition.
The Freightliner truck accident occurred near the intersection of N. Highway 36 and State School Rd. when the Dodge van pulled onto the interstate and was struck on the passenger side by the truck.
Police said the Freightliner that hit the van was a 1999 year model, driven by Rodolfo Antonio Espino of Pearland, Texas. Espino was not transported to a hospital, although it has been reported that he may have suffered injury as a result of the truck crash.
Officials continue to investigate the truck accident in Gatesville.
The Carlson Law Firm investigators, who are experienced in unveiling a greater understanding of trucking accidents and details associated, arrived at the scene of this tragic accident, where Freightliner has hired a prominent reconstruction company out of Bryan, Texas, to survey the scene where the crash occurred.
The intersection was located in a construction zone and new information from our investigative team has revealed that, at the time of the collision, the Freightliner truck was traveling through a cautionary blinking light.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the McDermotts.
