Four Californians Killed in I-10 Blowout

A car accident on I-10 in West Texas that was caused by a tire blowout claimed the lives of four California residents and injured two others on Thursday.

Officials identified the occupants of the Ford Explorer, who were killed, as Huntington Park resident Maira Aranvia, 41, Bakersfield resident, Vitalina Mendez, 51, Oscar Araniva, 14 and Francisco Araniva, 8. Maira Araniva was the driver of the Ford Explorer at the time of the tire blowout accident.

In addition, police identified Oscar Araniva (Elder), 41 and Crystal Araniva, 13, as the car accident victims who were injured in the rollover.

Officials said the tire on the Ford Explorer blew out, causing the driver to lose control of the SUV before striking a guardrail and overturning.

Tire blowouts can sometimes result from defective tires, which can become even more vulnerable during warm summer months. In addition to loss of control, such blowouts can often result in rollover accidents, especially among SUV’s and trucks with higher centers of gravity.
