Four Killed in 18 Wheeler Accident in Midland-Odessa on Interstate 20
A tractor trailer accident in Midland on Interstate 20 resulted in fatalities, police said Thursday afternoon. Various new sources reported the number of people dead at four.
The accident took place near FM 1788 after multiple tractor trailers were struck while traveling east on the interstate. According to reports by NewsWest 9, a bull hauler traveling in the opposite lane of traffic was also involved in the collision. The driver of the truck hauling the cattle trailer was identified as 50-year-old David Wisener, of Lufkin, according to Lufkin Ranch and Rodeo Owner, Chuck Griffith.
Three other people were killed in the truck accident in Midland.
Police identified the driver and passenger of the 18 wheeler truck that was struck by the other semi as 60-year-old John Charles Griffith and 54-year-old Gordon Douglas Fisher, both of Virginia. The driver of the truck, who police believe lost control of his truck, sparking the accident, was identified as 68-year-old Herman Buggs, of Georgia.
Griffith said one of the tractor trailer trucks crossed the median into the opposite lane of traffic, colliding with another 18 wheeler truck, which was traveling ahead of Wisener’s truck.
Interstate 20 was shut down in both directions by officials with the Texas Department of Transportation.
