The victims of the pedestrian accident in College Station were identified as Brian Gill, 21, and Amanda Johnson, 19.

Both Gill and Johnson endured injuries when they stepped off the curb of a crowded sidewalk. They were transported to College Station Medical Center for the treatment of their injuries, which police have said were not believed to be life-threatening.

Surveillance of the area, where the hit-and-run accident in College Station occurred, captured the white pick-up truck, which authorities say may have endured body damage.

The use of crosswalks is a valuable tool for those who are walking, jogging or moving about near vehicles and intersections. In fact, crosswalks and pedestrian signals, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), can provide a clearly defined walkway for pedestrians and drivers who are unfamiliar with an area.

Although clear striping of a crosswalk region is an important aspect for keeping pedestrians safe, flashing lights are shown, according to reports by DOT to be more effective at creating awareness, warning drivers, decreasing the speeds traveled by vehicles and increasing the noticeability of pedestrians.

Within heavy pedestrian populations, such as those near schools, Universities and colleges, clearly marked crosswalks and flashing lights can be an effective manner of highlighting the presence of pedestrians in an effort to reduce pedestrian accidents in Texas.
