Houston Woman Struck by HPD Officer While Crossing Street on Scotter

A woman crossing the street on a scooter was seriously injured Friday, when she was struck by a Houston police patrol car.
VA hospital employee, 40-year-old Tamara Smith, was crossing the street near the intersection of South MacGregor Way and Almeda early Friday morning when the unknown officer hit her.
According to witnesses, the officer was not responding to a call and was not using lights or sirens, although reports have said he ran a red light prior to hitting Smith.
Officials are still investigating the pedestrian accident, which sent Smith to the VA hospital with neck injuries, back injuries, and shoulder injuries.
