A rollover car accident on I-20 in Odessa claimed the lives of two people and sent three more occupants to the hospital with injuries caused by the single-vehicle accident, officials said.

The victims of the rollover accident, who were killed, were identified as 65-year-old Ronnie Troutz and 28-year-old Kaysie Guynn. Both were passengers in the GMC Envoy that rolled over.

The driver of the SUV was identified as 57-year-old Kimberly Guynn. She was transported to Sweetwater Hospital. Emergency personnel said Kimberly Guynn endured neck injuries caused by the rollover accident.

Two other passengers, 6-year-old Ethan Guynn and 86-year-old Meta Troutz also experienced neck injuries in addition to head injuries caused by the crash. They were transported to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.

Everyone involved in the accident was wearing a seatbelt.

Many injuries involving rollover accidents can be tied to ejection from the vehicle as it overturns. In some situations where passengers and drivers experience head and neck injuries, the roof of the vehicle may have failed to protect the space between the roof and their heads from crushing. The pillar of a vehicle’s roof is designed to keep the roof from crushing into the protective space when a vehicle rolls.
