An ICE van rollover prompted by a tire blowout sent several illegal immigrants to the hospital with injuries resulting from the single vehicle crash in Driscoll, Texas, police reported earlier this week.

The accident occurred on Hwy 77 near CR 18 outside of Driscoll.

Two of the immigrants who were passengers in the van were ejected as the vehicle overturned, sending them to the hospital with serious injuries. Those two immigrants were recently listed in critical condition.

Police have not yet revealed whether the van’s occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the van rollover accident.

The names of the victims involved in the ICE van rollover have not yet been released, although officials identified them as immigrants from Honduras and revealed that the consulate was informed about the crash.

In the summer months, high temperatures can be a large factor in the operations of a vehicle, especially when it comes to the operation and maintenance of tires and other equipment. During a tire blowout, one of the natural reactions many drivers have is to immediately attempt to regain control over the vehicle, thus, overcorrecting. Overcorrection, however, is one of the leading reasons why trucks, SUV’s and vans can become imbalanced and roll.

Despite all the precautions of reactions a driver may make, equipment within vehicles is designed to protect occupants from some of the serious injuries associated with rollover crashes. From the seatbelt to the roof to the glass comprising windows and windshields, when vehicle equipment fails it leaves passengers and drivers vulnerable to ejection, brain injuries, neck injuries and even death.
