A Kaufman County rollover accident sent four people to the hospital with injuries and claimed the life of an infant on Sunday, officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety revealed.
Authorities identified the infant, who was killed in the single vehicle crash, as 3-month-old Rey Salinas, of Kemp, Texas. The infant was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital. Two adults were also transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital. A 4-year-old and a 7-year-old were transported to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.
Officials said the children and infant were properly restrained and the adults also appeared to have been using seatbelts.
While traveling southbound on Hwy 274, the driver of the Nissan Xterra SUV lost control of the vehicle, crossing into the opposite lane of traffic before overturning. Police reported that the family was leaving a family event and traveling home when the rollover accident on Hwy 274 occurred.
Defective Car Seat Attorneys in Texas
In some situations where a collision or even a single vehicle accident has occurred and injuries resulted despite the use of safety restraints, the restraints or defective car seats may have been flawed or not performed as designed.
Although using proper restraints corresponding with a child’s age, weight and height are important to protecting them during a collision or single vehicle accident, car seat defects can leave them vulnerable to seat failure and serious injuries and death. Some of the car seat defects that can have serious repercussions for infants and children include:
- Poor design
- Inadequate construction
- Flammable materials
- Flawed car seat harness
- Separation of the seat from the base
- Inadequate latches and harnesses
