Killeen ATV Accident Kills One

A Killeen ATV accident resulted in the death of a 23-year-old man Wednesday after his four wheeler over turned.

Josue Leon, of Killeen, was thrown from the ATV and pinned beneath it when he lost control of the all-terrain vehicle.

Despite rescue efforts of by-standers, rescue teams transported Leon to Fort Hood’s Carl R. Darnell Army Medical Center. Although StatAir was considered, authorities on site decided against airlifting. Leon was pronounced dead at the medical center, Killeen Police Department spokesperson, Carroll Smith said.

The prevalence of ATV and four wheeler accidents has provoked some safety advocates to question the protection offered by the vehicles, should riders become involved in such accidents. Some recommendations include the addition of a safety bar that could prevent riders from being crushed by the weight of an over turned four wheeler.
