A Longview rollover accident claimed the life of an infant and sent the child’s mother to the hospital after their 2000 Ford Explorer SUV was struck, causing it to overturn and eject the young woman and her infant.

Police identified the 21-year-old Longview mother as Robin Hathorn. Her infant was 5-weeks old. Mrs. Hathorn was holding the infant and neither was wearing a seatbelt and both were ejected from the Ford Explorer SUV. Mrs. Hathorn was ultimately transported to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. The infant was transported to Children’s Hospital in Dallas, where he later passed away as a result of his injuries.

All of the other occupants in the Ford Explorer were wearing at seatbelt at the time of the rollover crash in Longview. Despite wearing seatbelts, all five of the other occupants were transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center for the treatment of injuries they endured.

Officials have not issued an update regarding the status of Mrs. Hathorn.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Hathorn family and their loved ones during this difficult time.

Ford Explorers have been plagued by a propensity to rollover. With the defective Firestone tire recall that affected thousands of the SUV’s and design flaws, Ford has issued many alerts regarding their sport utility vehicles, especially older models of cars.

With a higher center of gravity and boxy design, Ford Explorers and Expeditions can be seen with abundance in the news, regarding rollover accidents.
