Lorena Rollover Accident on I-35 Kills Passenger

A rollover accident on I-35 near Lorena claimed the life of a 22-year-old man, who was a passenger in a pickup truck.
Police identified the young man as Eddy resident James Dewey Eddins II. He was traveling with 34-year-old Robert Peters, also a resident of Eddy.
According to reports, the driver of the vehicle lost control of the truck, causing it to overturn several times. Eddins was pronounced dead at the scene of the single vehicle accident on I-35 while Peters was transported to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center with injuries sparked by the roll over. Officials said both men appeared to have been wearing their seatbelts at the time of the Texas truck crash.
While standards for improving vehicles and making them increasingly crashworthy are in motion, older model vehicles with defective equipment can leave occupants vulnerable to serious head, neck and back injuries caused by the crushing blows of an unstable roof. In addition, defective seatbelts can leave passengers and drivers prone to ejection and accompanying injuries that could have been prevented with properly operating equipment.
