Man Experiences Head Injury in Temple Pedestrian Accident

A pedestrian accident in Temple, Texas sent the victim to the hospital with a head injury on Wednesday morning, officials reported.

According to police, the man was crossing within a crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle that was exiting the local VA. Police believe the driver did not see the pedestrian before crossing into the crosswalk where the victim was walking.

The Temple pedestrian injury occurred on South 1st Street near the intersection of West Avenue R at approximately 7 a.m., authorities announced.

Although pedestrian accidents are commonplace around the state of Texas, drivers and pedestrians have an important responsibility to protect others from the severity of such accidents,

KSAT News recently published a story chronicling San Antonio as 18th in the nation for accidents involving pedestrians, highlighting the importance of attentive drivers.

Mobile devices, passengers, electronics and even radios and music can be a serious distraction for drivers, making it more difficult for them to react to pedestrians, other drivers, traffic and road debris in a timely manner.

The name of the victim and an update on his condition have not yet been released by police, who are currently investigating the scene of the accident in an effort to better understand what may have caused the driver to pull out into the crosswalk.
