Methyl Alcohol Filled Tractor Trailer Overturns on I-20

An 18 wheeler truck rollover, in Texas sparked closures of portions of I-20 in Smith County, Texas.

According to officials, the semi-truck was hauling methyl alcohol when it overturned in the eastbound lane of the interstate, causing a chemical spill.

While the accident caused traffic delays, authorities were more concerned about the leaking chemicals, calling hazmat out to clean the spill and prevent contamination.

One person was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. Their identity has not been revealed nor has their condition been updated.

Some motorists were stranded while crews worked to clean the spilled methyl alcohol.

The cause of the accident is unknown, though authorities are still investigating the 18 wheeler accident in Smith County.
