Multi-vehicle crash kills 2 in Huntsville
A five-vehicle pileup in Huntsville killed two people on Monday afternoon.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Cheehee Kang, 43, and 11-year-old Yero Lee, both of Flower Mound, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred at mile marker 110 on I-45 South, near the Sam Houston Statue and Visitors Center.
Reports state that Kang and Yero were in the back of a 2010 Toyota Corolla that was being driven by Juny Lee, when the car slowed down because of a 2-vehicle accident up ahead. A 2005 GMC Envoy slammed into the back of the Corolla. It is believed that the victims died on impact, police say.
The driver of the Corolla was treated for minor injuries, and the driver of the Envoy walked away with minor bruising caused by the seat belt.
The crash between the Corolla and the Envoy caused three more vehicles to collide. Traffic was shut down for several hours after the initial impact. The series of events is still being pieced together by crash investigators, who say that none of the drivers involved remember who hit who, because it all happened so fast.
How The Carlson Law Firm Can Help
Auto pileups can quickly turn deadly, sparking a chain reaction of accidents and injuries when other drivers fail to notice or react to an initial crash, provoking additional collisions. In addition, many instances of accidents and serious injuries occur to those who stop and help following initial impact. Attention to the signage, posted speeds, drivers surrounding and potential debris in the roadways can help drivers react adequately and avoid the potential for additional collisions that could escalate an accident that started with a couple vehicles into a more serious pileup involving several vehicles and leaving multiple people with injuries.
While it’s important to seek medical attention immediately and make contact with insurance and other parties involved, seeking help should be done immediately to protect victims from some of the pitfalls associated with auto accidents and interactions with insurance representatives. Before signing settlements or other documents, getting the opinion of an attorney can help victims make sure they are receiving the compensation they are entitled that will help them pay for medical care, damages and loss. Contact The Carlson Law Firm as soon as possible. We care. We can help.
