New bill threatens to take protections away from Texas insurance policyholders
Do you pay for insurance every month? Most people do, and most people do so with the belief that if something should happen, the insurance company will help them. Unfortunately, insurance companies have proven this to be untrue, which is why these situations seem to always need an attorney.
There have been laws put in place with harsh penalties to prevent insurance companies from denying, delaying or underpaying valid claims. These laws are important to help stop bad conduct.
This protection could come to an end as Senate Bill 1628 attempts to take the insurance industry’s side and leave the policyholders (you) behind.
The bill encourages the following:
- Low settlements
- Immunizes insurance adjusters, agents and employees from being sued
- Takes away more than 40 years of policyholder protection laws
- Creates provisions that allow insurance companies to deny claims thoughtlessly
- Restricts when claims can be made
Without the current protections in place, Texas businesses and families are left unprotected by insurance companies. This bill is trying to take those protections away.
Reach out to your lawmakers to vote against the Senate Bill 1628 to keep your family and local business owners protected.
