One Dead, Four Injured in Pickup Truck Collision With SUV in San Antonio

A fatal collision between an SUV and a speeding pickup truck left one man dead and four others injured Thursday, when the pickup truck lost control while passing illegally, police said.

The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, 74-year-old Johnny Mendez, was pronounced dead at the scene of the fatal San Antonio car accident. Those injured in the wreck have not yet been identified by police.

Police said, the out of control pickup struck the SUV after the driver fishtailed the vehicle and lost control, overcorrecting and crashing into the Tahoe. A passenger in the pickup truck had to be cut out of the vehicle by emergency crews, officials reported. A female passenger in the SUV and the driver of the pickup truck were both ejected upon impact.

Authorities reported recently, that alcohol played a role in the accident. They currently suspect speed as at least one of the factors in the fatal crash. The driver of the GMC Sierra pickup truck, Rogelio Rincon, 49, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter as a result of the drunk driving accident.
