Police are still investigating a recent crash in Lufkin, involving a Lufkin ISD school bus and two 18 wheeler trucks on US 59.
The driver of the school bus and three children who were aboard at the time of the bus accident were transported to a hospital with minor injuries. The driver of one of the trucks involved in the crash was killed, officials said.
One of the 18 wheelers was identified as a chip hauler. The other big rig was hauling hazardous chemicals, which made hazmat crews necessary for accident cleanup.
Police identified the driver, who was killed in the Lufkin truck wreck, as 57-year-old Pine Bluff, Arkansas resident, Barry Harper. The other truck’s driver was not identified.
The highway where the truck accident in Lufkin occurred was closed for more than 20 hours while crews cleaned and officials investigated. Police have not said what sparked the collision or who may be at fault.
