A gas well accident North of the Kenedy County line left one person dead and two others injured last Friday, county officials said. Twenty-three-year-old Ronnie Wise was identified as the victim of the accident caused by an explosion of pressure built up in the well.
Investigations by the Texas Railroad Commission and the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration are under way to uncover whether improper procedures or violation of industry rules contributed to the gas well accident.
XTO Energy Inc. spokesman, Jeff New, said Liberty Swabbing contractors were present at the well head when the valve blew off.
In addition to the fatality resulting, the blown valve has also provoked a serious leak that officials struggled to cap. An emergency response team traveled from Corpus Christi to stop the leaking gas.
The contractor that was killed was taken by funeral home employees based in Corpus Christi.
Kenedy County deputies also reported to the scene of the accident, but have refused to offer details or information regarding the occurrence. The two other injured employees were treated at the scene and then released, Willacy County Emergency Coordinator, Frank Torres said.
