One Fatality Following Austin Capital MetroRail Collision with Car

A Capital MetroRail accident in Austin resulted in one fatality, officials said, Monday morning.

Police identified the person killed in the train collision as 32-year-old Jeremy Barta. Barta was pronounced dead at the scene of the Capital MetroRail accident.

Two boys, Barta’s sons, were transported to the hospital with injuries resulting from the tragic Austin train accident. Both boys were recently listed in stable condition.

The accident in Austin took place at a private crossing on Oak Creek Drive near the southbound frontage road on Mopac. According to officials, the private crossings do not require the electric trains to blow their horn nor are they required to have crossing arms where the tracks intersection with private drives.

KXAN News reported that as many as 128 riders were on the train at the time the Capital Metro crash occurred.
