One Injured When Crane Overturns on 190 in Killeen, Texas

A truck carrying a crane was involved in a serious single vehicle accident near the intersection of U.S. Highway 190 and Fort Hood Street, sending one man to the hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The man injured in the Killeen crane accident was identified as 48-year-old Michael Davis. Davis was transported via ground ambulance to Scott & White in Temple where he was recently listed in intensive care, officials said.

According to officials, the truck carrying the crane may have lost its brakes, causing the driver to lose control, smashing into the guardrail after crossing four lanes of traffic. The truck overturned, landing in a nearby ditch and trapping the driver. Authorities now believe Davis turned the vehicle into the ditch to avoid affecting or injuring other drivers after he discovered the truck had lost its brakes.

No other vehicles were involved in the crane accident and no one else was hurt, authorities noted.

Irregular or inadequate maintenance of a commercial vehicle, can sometimes be traced to malfunctions of defects, such asbrake failure. In addition, the brakes themselves may have flaws that prevented them from operated at an optimum level. In some circumstances, the owner or owners of the commercial vehicle or truck may be responsible for poor maintenance as well as companies responsible for performing such maintenance if it was not done properly.
