One Killed in Tire Blowout on U.S. 281 Near Ben Bolt, Texas

A tire blowout rollover accident left the passenger of a pickup truck dead after the vehicle lost control following the tire failure on U.S. 281, according to police.

The woman who was killed in the single vehicle accident was identified as 32-year-old Monica Velasquez Barrza, a resident of Edinburg, Texas.

The accident occurred outside Ben Bolt, Texas after the passenger side rear tire blew out, causing the driver to lose control of the 2003 Toyota Tundra. As a result of the tire failure, the pickup truck over turned. Both occupants within the vehicle were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, Department of Public Safety officials said.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 28-year-old Hector Torres Jr. He experienced minor injuries resulting from the single vehicle crash on Hwy 281,
