One Killed, Ten Injured in Kaufman County Multi-Vehicle Car Accident on Highway 243

A major accident in Kaufman County, Texas, on Highway 243, claimed the life of one person and sent 10 others to the hospital with injuries.

Police believe the accident occurred when the driver of a Cadillac Escalade tried to pass a Chevy pickup truck while traveling eastbound on Highway 243 near Canton. The Cadillac struck a westbound Ford pickup truck in the Kaufman head-on collision.

The initial crash was a catalyst for subsequent accidents as the driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck stopped to help the victims of the first collision, which resulted in a rear-end collision involving a Chevrolet Tahoe. The secondary, rear-end, collision caused the Chevy pickup to overturn.

The victim who was car accident injury lawyers in San Antonio was identified as a passenger in the Chevrolet Tahoe. Three occupants in Ford pickup, which was involved in the initial, head-on collision, were transported to the hospital with injuries resulting from the Kaufman accident. Two of those victims were transported via helicopter.

Two occupants in the Cadillac were also transported to the hospital via helicopter.

Five other victims, who were occupants in the Chevy pickup truck, were also transported to the hospital with injuries.

Police have not yet identified the victims or those involved by name.
