Pedestrian Injured in HEB Parking Lot Accident

A pedestrian parking lot accident in San Marcos left one man with fatal injuries on Wednesday, when he was struck by a pickup truck while standing near the trunk of his own vehicle, officials reported.

Although the driver’s name was not released, police said he was a 93-year-old man. According to reports, the driver’s foot slipped, hitting the truck’s accelerator instead of the brake. The truck traveled in reverse at a high speed as a result, unexpectedly hitting the 86-year-old victim, who was standing near his own car.

Officials identified the man who was struck as 85-year-old Dr. Hal Tuck Blythe, a retired professor from Texas State University.

Blythe was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge via ground ambulance and passed away from his injuries, four days later.

In addition to Blythe’s fatal injuries, the crash sparked a chain reaction after slamming into parked cars nearby. The parked cars struck two other victims in the HEB parking lot accident.
