private military contractor attorneys, Houston-based KBR, is being sued by as many as 200 soldiers, who claim, the civilian contracting company knowingly exposed them to dangerous chemicals while serving in Iraq.

According to the suit, the chemicals, private military contractors were exposed to, have caused a spectrum of health effects, including nosebleeds and instances of cancer. Contractors were reportedly exposed to the chemicals while working at a water facility in Qarmat Ali, which was, unbeknownst to soldiers and civilian contractors, laden with sodium dichromate residue.

Despite the health problems some of private military contractor attorneys experience as a result of exposure to sodium dichromate, Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR) may not be responsible for the court costs accompanying the tragedy facing hundreds of National Guardsmen and private military contracts alike. Having obtained indemnity, even negligent operation may not result in an responsibility, financial or otherwise, against the civilian contracting company, who continues to emerge among new headlines.

According to the suits, KBR didn’t notify the army of hazards associated with the chemical residue until months and months after they initially discovered it, leaving troops and civilian contractors exposed for periods much longer than necessary.

Though KBR Inc. acknowledges the existence of the chemical residue, representatives of the company claim mere exposure does not equate health issues.
