A pickup truck rollover accident claimed the life of a Celina, Texas man, when he lost control of his truck, causing it to overturn several times.
The single-vehicle accident occurred Friday evening near Burke in Grayson County, Texas Department of Public Safety officials said.
DPS authorities identified the man as 56-year-old Bobby Shields. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Police have not disclosed whether Shields was wearing a seatbelt or what kinds of injuries he sustained that resulted in his death.
While more information is still emerging regarding the loss of Shields, rollover accident are sometimes commonplace among single vehicle accidents.
Loss of control over a vehicle is one of the more common place causes of rollover accidents, which can be sparked by quick jerking or overcorrection. Sudden movements or correction can cause imbalance, especially among SUV’s and trucks, which have a higher center of gravity than vehicles that are lower to the ground.
Although a higher center of gravity can contribute to rollover accidents of trucks and sport utility vehicles, the vehicles should be designed with crashworthiness in mind at the manufacturing level. Creating a protective space for drivers and passengers can help prevent deadly head injuries, neck injuries, back injuries and spine injuries that result in rollover accident fatalities.
In addition, auto product defects can sometimes be responsible for not offering vehicle occupants with the protection necessary to safeguard against serious injuries and death. Defective seatbelts, defective glass and improper roof pillar support can transform a dangerous crash into a life threatening occurrence.
