Rollover Accident Claims Life of Round Rock Teen

A Texas rollover accident outside of Lubbock on Hwy 70 claimed the life of a teen from Round Rock and left five other people injured, officials announced.

The teen who was killed was identified as 14-year-old Jordan Simms.

Police believe the driver of the vehicle may have fallen asleep while traveling in the SUV on highway 70. As a result, the driver lost control of the SUV and overcorrected in an effort to regain control of the vehicle. As a result, the SUV overturned multiple times before coming to a stop on its roof. Officials believe Simms may not have been wearing a seatbelt. He was ejected from the vehicle as a result of the rollover crash.

The driver endured minor injuries as a result of the single-vehicle crash and was later released from Muleshoe Medical Center.

Four people who were also in the vehicle at the time of the crash were also transported to the hospital and were recently listed in stable condition. Authorities have not yet released the names of those victims.

In some situations where a rollover accident has occurred, the accident itself may have been caused by an auto malfunction, such as a tire blowout or tread separation, or equipment in the vehicle may fail to protect occupants within because of a defect. Seat belt defects and defective auto glass that fails, may leave occupants vulnerable to ejection from the vehicle.
