San Antonio Man Freed From Accident Wreckage by Jaws-of-Life

A man involved in a two-vehicle accident was pulled from the wreckage by the Jaws of Life early Monday morning, according to San Antonio Firefighters.

The unidentified man’s vehicle was struck by a pickup truck and he was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, officials on the scene said.

Police believe alcohol may have played a role in the San Antonio auto accident. No other injuries have been reported.

According to the city’s Police Department Fatality Report, there are as many as 60,000 vehicle accidents in San Antonio every year. Of the 60,000 crashes that occur annually, 15 percent of them are defined as major, provoking injury and death among parties involved.

Despite heavy traffic during rush hours, the greatest number of fatal crashes in San Antonio actually take place around 2:00 a.m., the same time that bars and clubs stop serving alcohol in the city, highlighting the powerful role alcohol plays in accident rates. In fact, almost 35 percent of fatal accident were alcohol related.
