A motorcycle accident in San Antonio left a rider seriously injured on Sunday morning when the bike was struck by a driver who was trying to beat the light at the intersection of Old Pearsall and Sky Harbor, officials said.

Although authorities have not yet released the identity of the motorcyclist, they did report that the man was transport to University Hospital with possible head injuries.

Police said the rider was thrown from his bike as a result of the San Antonio motorcycle accident. He was not, reportedly, wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Because of the lacking protection offered to motorcyclists and the smaller size in comparison to cars, trucks and SUV’s, bike accidents can be serious, often resulting in head and back injuries and other traumatic injuries.
