A senior crossing the street in East Texas was hit by a minivan in a pedestrian accidentTuesday evening, sending him to the ICU with serious injuries.
According to police, 65-year-old Gregory Burke was attempting to cross busy intersection of Shiloh Road and Troup Highway, a crossing where many others attempt to cross near a local Wal-Mart. The intersection has no crosswalk.
Burke reportedly lives at a nearby assisted living facility.
In addition to the shopping center, residents in the area point out there are also bus stops nearby, making the street crossing necessary for some in the area.
Authorities said Burke was hit by the minivan, which was traveling southbound in the intersection’s turn lane. The driver did stop to help Burke, officials said.
