South Padre hit and run injures former Miss SD Contestant
A former Miss South Dakota Pageant contestant is in critical condition after being hit by a truck while walking with her boyfriend in South Padre Island.
Authorities say, 21-year-old Maria Anderson and 23-year-old Tyler Sheets were walking along the street early Sunday morning when the accident occurred. The driver fled the scene immediately after the crash.
According to Corpus Christi Police, Anderson has broken ribs and a brain injury. Sheets was released from the hospital with bruises and cuts.
Police are still searching for the hit-and-run suspect, but they do have pictures and a lead on the vehicle.
Anderson is from Sioux Falls, S.D., and is a senior psychology student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
