Students and Driver Injured in Bruceville-Eddy ISD School Bus Accident Involving Dump Truck

A collision between a dump truck and a school bus on I-35 in Lorena between Waco and Temple resulted in the injury of at least 15 people, some of whom were students, officials reported. As many as 60 total students occupied the bus at the time of the school bus accident on I-35.

Emergency crews called on jaws-of-life to free occupants in one of the vehicles, police said.

The bus was identified as a Bruceville-Eddy ISD school bus. Parents were seen on the scene picking up children. No word has been released regarding whether there were children injured but a helicopter was called to the scene of the I-35 school bus accident.

As least 12 people have been confirmed as injured in the Bruceville-Eddy ISD school bus wreck. The local fire department was also dispatched to the scene of the wreck.

The head-on collision between the school bus and dump truck on I-35 is still being investigated by officials.

Although no other details regarding the tragic collision have been released, authorities said the Lorena truck accident occurred at approximately 4:00 p.m. near exit 318 in Lorena.

The driver of the bus was listed as one of the injured parties, investigators with The Carlson Law Firm said. In addition, as many as 6 of those who were injured were identified as students occupying to bus. Those student were reportedly transported to a local hospital via ground ambulance. Investigations regarding the crash are still underway. The bus driver was flown to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco as a result of injuries caused by the accident after she had to be cut from the bus wreckage. A school bus aid was ejected from the bus as a result of the impact. She was also transported to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco.

Initial reports suggest that the driver of the dump truck may have crossed over into the opposite lane of traffic after passing out, KWTX reported.
