Study proves Texas has worst drivers in nation

Texas is at the top of the list for having the worst drivers in America, according to a recent report by the website carinsurancecomparison.com.

The Lone Star state is tied for first place with Louisiana.

What factors were used to determine the ranking? Five categories factored into the scoring, including fatality rate per 100 million miles traveled; failure to obey basic laws such as traffic signals, seat belts and having a valid driver’s license; drunk driving; speeding; and careless driving (which includes pedestrian and bicycle deaths).

All 50 states were compared with data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Texas was the only state to rank among the 15 worst in each of the study’s measured categories, finishing ninth in fatalities, 12th in failure to obey basic laws, third in drunk driving, ninth in speeding and 14th in careless driving.

Also on the top 10 list:

  1. Montana
  2. Arizona (tie)
  3. Alabama (tie)
  4. Nevada
  5. New Mexico
  6. Delaware
  7. North Dakota
  8. South Carolina
  9. Louisiana (tie)
  10. Texas (tie)

In 2015, Texas drivers were rated as only the fourth worst.
