The six-month-old infant, who was seriously injured last week, passed away Tuesday morning from injuries caused by the tragic accident, hospital representatives said.
The infant was identified as Anthony Hernandez Velasquez.
Fifty-four-year-old Alejandro Velasquez, 29-year-old Nelly Hernandez Velasquez and 2-year-old Keren Gissel Hernandez are still in the hospital with injuries caused by the car accident.
All four family members were traveling on Old Highway 95, near Southeast H K Dodgen Loop in a Toyota car when the driver of a Pontiac lost control of his car. The Pontiac crossed into the opposite lane, smashing into the Toyota.
The driver of the Pontiac was also injured in the head-on collision.
Police have reported that investigations on the scene revealed the driver of the Pontiac may have been traveling at high speeds when the accident occurred.
When emergency teams arrived, they performed CPR on the infant. Additionally, they had to free Nelly Hernandez Velasquez from the Toyota. She was trapped for almost half-an-hour, emergency representatives said.
